The European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel was created in London in December 1996 to lead and support all European countries in the efforts to prevent and treat pressure ulcers. At its inaugural meeting in London in December 1996, which included experts from many European countries, the group of over twenty agreed their mission statement and the initial Executive Board and Trustees.
THE MISSION
To provide the relief of persons suffering from or at risk of pressure ulcers trough:
- research in prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers
- raising awareness on the importance of prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers
- influencing pressure ulcer policy in all European countries
- working towards an adequate patient-centred and cost-effective pressure ulcer care
Bambino Gesù Hospital, affiliated with the Holy See, is Europe’s largest Pediatric Polyclinic and Research Center. Linked to prominent international institutions, it serves as a healthcare hub for children and adolescents across Italy and beyond.
The hospital operates in six locations: the historical site on Gianicolo, San Paolo Fuori le Mura, and Viale Baldelli in Rome; Palidoro and Santa Marinella on the Lazio coast, along with Passoscuro, dedicated to pediatric palliative care since 2022. It accommodates a total of 627 beds, including 40 for intensive care and 22 for neonatal semi-intensive care.
San Paolo hosts cutting-edge research laboratories with advanced technologies for genetic and cellular studies, including a pharmaceutical workshop producing advanced therapies. Additionally, Bambino Gesù serves as Italy’s headquarters for Orphanet, the world’s largest rare disease database, involving over 40 countries.

University Centre for Nursing & Midwifery
The University Centre for Nursing and Midwifery (UCVV) is part of the Department of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ghent University. The team consists of 25 members of staff being active in academic education, research, and societal/academic services in nursing and midwifery.
UCVV is a dynamic research center that focuses on the development, validation and valorization of scientific knowledge that leads to safe, evidence-based and efficient care and organization of care. This includes a focus on the translation and implementation of complex interventions in practice. The center was successful in obtaining > 4 million euro research funding since 2013.
Through partnerships and collaborations with external partners, the UCVV aims to support research skills of professionals in clinical practice. The research work is divided into six domains: skin care (pressure ulcers and incontinence- associated dermatitis), oncology, midwifery, education and training, mental health care, and nutrition. The UCVV uses innovative research methods (quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods) and works closely with national and international governments, universities, healthcare organizations and the industry in order to accomplish its mission.
The UCVV is responsible for the organization of the Master in Science in Nursing and Midwifery. In 2016, the UCVV was listed in the top- 100 QS World University Ranking for Nursing based on global reputation and research impact.
